As part of the ERASMUS+ project, eight students and two teachers from the Humboldt Gymnasium Gifhorn drove to an international meeting in Reda in Poland from 02.03 until 07.03.2020. After the first meeting in December last year, we met with the Bulgarian (Burgas),Polish (Reda) and Scottish(Annan/Dumfries) exchange students in Reda.
Because of the corona virus, the students from the Italian school in Meta at the Vesuv couldn’t take part in the meeting.
In the next three project years (2019-2022) we will learn something about the history, the present and the future of European Union. In addition to project work and looking at the founding and history of the EU, we also learned a lot about Polish culture and saw it from Poland, true to the EU motto ”United in diversity“.
Arriving after a 9 hour train ride, our host families welcomed us warmly. In the evening we went bowling together to get to know each other. On Tuesday (03.03.2020) we drove to Gdansk and the Polish exchange students showed us the city by giving short lectures on the important buildings.
On Wednesday we went to school and had lessons in Polish or English together and solved a quiz about it. Afterwards we were warmly welcomed by the mayor of Reda in the town hall. We also gave a presentation about the history of Europe, which we have already prepared in Germany and then played a quiz (Kahoot!) with everyone. After a tour of the school by the Polish students, we rehearsed and performed a Polish dance together. In the evening we went to the “Aqua park Reda“ and tried the out the new Aqua spinner of Reda.
On Thursday the entire project group and their luggage will leave at 7.15 am from the school in Reda to Warsaw. In Warsaw we will take a look at the Royal castle and then finish and present the posters on to various EU institutions.
On Friday we will spend time together in Warsaw and visit the Polish parliament ”Sejm I Senat“. Unfortunately we have to say goodbye to our exchange students on Friday evening, because they will go back to Reda.
On Saturday morning the Scottish and Bulgarian participants will fly home from Warsaw and we will take the train back to Gifhorn. It was a very nice stay for us and we look forward to further meetings. In September, five students will fly to Burgas/Bulgaria to continue the project and develop views of the students on the future of Europe.
